Greenery: The evolution of the 2017 Pantone Colour of the Year

A tranquil antidote to the pressures of modern life, Pantone’s 2017 Colour of the Year ‘Greenery’ burst onto the scene earlier this year in all its zesty, acid green glory.

“It’s a refreshing and revitalising shade that is symbolic of new beginnings. It’s intended to satisfy our growing desire to rejuvenuate, revitalise and symbolise the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose,” says Pantone. How very Zen!

And given the exact Pantone hue is a rather vibrant shade (that certainly isn’t to everyone’s taste), we’ve noticed that the announcement heralded the arrival of green in its myriad glorious shades.

From emerald to olive, acid and sage, green has been embraced by the design world this year in a way that we haven’t seen since the 1970’s. From the indoor plant trend (green is nature’s neutral after all) to the prevalence of green velvet upholstery, there’s no doubt that the world has gone a little gaga for green.

And while some people will enjoy using the colour in a major way (think a green feature wall or lush statement wallpaper), we think it works just as a well in small doses – a green cushion or accessory may be just the lush lift your interior needs.
