Time for a staycation? Check out the revamped Tradewinds Hotel
East Fremantle’s Tradewinds Hotel was given a makeover recently making it the perfect spot for visitors and locals alike to enjoy the many delights of Fremantle and surrounds. Nestled high up on the riverbank overlooking the water, and with views out to the Fremantle Port, the heritage elements of the historical building (it first opened in 1897) have been carefully preserved alongside the latest modern upgrade.

“Through clever, contemporary design we have worked to honour the heritage of the building, upgrade the hotel’s facilities with modern interiors and offerings, and enhance the beauty of the Swan River and Fremantle Port,” says Garrett Prendiville, Executive Director Hotels for The Prendiville Group, the company also responsible for the fabulous overhaul of The Cottesloe Beach Hotel.

The industrial harbourside location is reflected in the interiors – think slatted timber cabinets (that allude to the corrugated tin of industrial shipping containers) and concrete-look paint on the walls The colour palette conjurs a nautical feel continues with linen and blue recurring elements and each room also features a unique artwork by abstract artist Sarah Kelk.

Larger than typical hotel rooms, the 83 self-contained guestrooms, suites, studio rooms and two bedroom apartments are super spacious. There’s also a newly refurbished swimming pool, fitness centre and rooftop garden terrace that takes in sweeping river views.

“The first stage of the refurbishment includes all the hotel rooms, reception, central pool area and the stunning, new, licensed rooftop garden terrace. More exciting developments are planned for 2018,” says Garrett.
